24.5.26 Pentecost - Pray ‘Your Kingdom Come’ with Bracknell Churches
Over the last few months, the Bracknell Christian Network have been discussing the possibility of doing something for Pentecost, joining with an increasing number of Christians across the UK and beyond.
On Monday we received the go ahead to gather publicly at the Bandstand in Bond Square (at the bottom of the M&S steps) to pray together with Christians across Bracknell Town.
It feels like a really strategic time to be praying for our town after a number of serious events in recent months, so even at this late stage we felt it was important to go for it over the Pentecost Bank Holiday weekend (23rd–25th May).
We know this is quite late notice, so this year we want to keep things simple, prayerful, and accessible.
The Plan
Prayer Walking across the Pentecost weekend
We have created a prayer walking map to help people pray strategically around the town centre (click to download) . There is both a printable landscape version and a phone-friendly portrait version for electronic use.
We would love people to use the map over the weekend — individually, in pairs, as families, or in small groups — praying for the people, places, and life of our town as they walk. It should take about an hour to complete. If your legs won’t manage this distance then why don't you pray around the map from the comfort of your sofa.
‘Thy Kingdom Come’ website shares this encouragement:
“Jesus sent his disciples out in pairs. It’s not as intimidating as a large group, and is safer than people going on their own. If you have a larger group, breaking into pairs can help you to pray for different parts of your area.
As you prayer walk, be aware of your surroundings: what you see, smell, hear and touch. But also be aware of what God is saying to you as you move around your community; if any Bible verses pop into your head or if you have any pictures, visions or words of knowledge. Turn these natural and supernatural senses into prayer.”
Pentecost Churches Prayer Gathering
Sunday 25th May 5- 5:45pm – Bond Square
At 5pm on Pentecost Sunday we want to gather for 45 mins together in the heart of Bracknell to celebrate the birth of the Church and pray for our town.
We are confident in Jesus’ encouragement that God listens when His people pray together, and we want this to be a time of unity, encouragement, blessing, and hope. We have invited different church communities to lead each section in different styles of prayer, giving us the opportunity to explore and celebrate the diversity of traditions across the churches in Bracknell.
And because Pentecost is also the “birthday” of the Church, there will be cake to share — both with one another and with any passers-by who would like some — along with time to chat before we disperse.
