A Community That Cares: Bracknell Foodbank Update

Some seasons don’t bring dramatic change but quietly reveal what a community is made of. For Bracknell Foodbank, the first two months of 2026 have been exactly that: steady generosity, practical kindness and neighbours lifting one another through tough moments.

It’s easy to look at a foodbank update and see numbers. But behind every voucher and donation is something deeper - a web of people supporting one another when life gets heavy.

A Mountain of Generosity (Literally)

Every so often, generosity arrives in such abundance that you’re grateful… and also left wondering where on earth you’re going to store it.

The Lexicon ended 2025 with an ambitious challenge: collect 1,000 packs of four toilet rolls for Bracknell Foodbank. Practical, unglamorous yet essential!

By January, the community hadn’t just met the goal—they’d surpassed it with over 1,200 packs.

For a moment, our storage area resembled a small mountain range (soft, helpful, and extremely stackable). Thankfully, The Lexicon didn’t just donate—they also offered to store the bulk of it, sparing us from constructing a “Toilet Roll Extension” onto the building.

This wasn’t just generosity; it was thoughtful generosity—giving what’s needed and helping solve the practical challenges that come with abundance.

Showing Up in the Community

One of our themes this year is simple: Be present.

Some of our volunteers recently attended a local roadshow, connecting with organisations and chatting with residents about the support available. These conversations matter—because often the biggest barrier to help isn’t the need itself, but not knowing where to turn.

The more visible and connected we are, the easier it is for people to find us..

Warm Hellos and Happy News

We’re also celebrating a special moment within our team.

Claire, one of our Foodbank Managers, has begun her maternity leave. We’re sending our warmest wishes to her and her family as they welcome a new chapter.

At the same time, we’re thrilled to introduce Susannah, who has joined us as our Foodbank Administrator. She has already brought warmth, capability, and calm energy to a very busy team—and we’re so glad she said yes.

A Story of Strength

Among the hundreds of people supported so far this year, one family’s story stands out.

A mum arrived with her two young children after her husband experienced a sudden, life-changing medical emergency. Overnight, her world turned upside down—finances, work, childcare, the emotional load. She did everything she could, but it wasn’t enough to keep up with the basics.

With support from several agencies, including the foodbank, she received practical help, Christmas gifts for her children, and additional funding through the Household Support Fund.

One of our volunteers reflected:

“We are only a small link in this beautiful family’s life, but we can help in situations that are so hard to make things a little lighter.”

That’s exactly what community looks like—standing alongside people, not fixing everything, but helping where we can.

The Numbers Behind the Kindness

January

  • 219 vouchers fulfilled

  • 469 people supported (317 adults, 152 children)

  • 4.9 tonnes donated

  • 3.3 tonnes distributed (+ 1.5 tonnes extra items)

February

  • 185 vouchers fulfilled

  • 423 people supported (271 adults, 152 children)

  • 3.8 tonnes donated

  • 2.6 tonnes distributed (+ 1.3 tonnes extra items)

The need remains steady, but so does the community response.

Held Together With Kindness… and Clipboards

Nothing we do happens in isolation.

  • Donors give what they can.

  • Volunteers give their time—packing parcels, welcoming people, listening without judgment, and occasionally sprinting after runaway tins.

  • Partner organisations work with us to make sure support reaches those who need it.

  • Clients show strength and dignity while navigating circumstances none of us would wish for.

Every one of these acts—big or small—adds up to something powerful: a community quietly holding one another up.
