Please join us for an evening with David Bennett

Recently Heather Pocock and I had the privilege of hosting our Grace and Truth Conversations, where over four weeks we explored the issues of gender, marriage and sexuality. We were very aware that we spoke as two straight people in heterosexual marriages, and were keen for our community to hear from people who would be able to speak to the issues we addressed from different perspectives. To help facilitate this we have invited Dr. David Bennett to come and spend an evening with us.

David’s book, A War of Loves, describes him this way:

As a young gay man, David Bennett saw Christianity as an enemy to freedom for LGBTQI people, and his early experiences with prejudice and homophobia led him to become a gay activist. But when Jesus came into his life in a highly unexpected way, he was led down a path he would never have imagined.

David is going to share with us the story of how he went from being a gay rights activist in Australia to a theology lecturer at Oxford University, and how that faith journey led him to choose to live a celibate life. He will also reflect on the theology which lies behind his journey, and do a question-and-answer session where will put to him some of the questions which came out of the Grace and Truth Conversations. I’ve had the privilege of getting to know David over the last few years, and know that we will all both enjoy and benefit from getting to hear from him.

We’ll be at the Kerith Centre in Bracknell starting at 7.30pm – parking is in the college car park. Tickets are free but we’d ask people to sign up so that we have an idea of numbers. You can get tickets here – there is also a form there to submit any questions you may have for David. I’d encourage those based on our Farnborough and Windsor sites to make the journey over. For those on the Isle of Wight there will be a watch party where you can see the video of the evening of Monday 22nd June – you can find more details on that and sign up here.

Please do come for what is going to be a brilliant evening.

Simon
