Week of Prayer - ‘Let your light shine before others…’ (Matt 5:16)
Being a Faithful Presence in the World
“Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” — Matthew 5:16 (NIV)
Breathing is a rhythm, inhale, exhale. In our lives, we often focus on “breathing in” God’s presence through prayer, worship, and Scripture. But just as vital is the “breathing out”, living out God’s presence in the world through our actions, relationships, and mission off the back of what we encounter through God’s presence..
In our families, workplaces, schools, and communities, we are called to embody God’s love, justice, and mercy. Every interaction becomes an opportunity to reflect His kingdom. And to do this, we need to bring the essence of Christ wherever we go. It’s not just about what we believe, but how we live.
Living Out God’s Presence
Being a faithful presence starts with small, everyday choices. Be in the habit of choosing to breathe in God’s presence daily, and then choosing to breathe out God’s presence around you. It’s the patience we show at the school gate, the kindness we extend to a neighbour, the integrity we maintain when dealing with a difficult coworker. These moments may seem ordinary, but they are sacred. Through them, God’s presence is made tangible in the world.
Our relationships become a canvas for God’s love. When we forgive, encourage, and serve others, we mirror the heart of Christ. Our mission is not confined to church walls; it spills into boardrooms, classrooms, kitchens, and playgrounds. We are ambassadors of hope, peace, and reconciliation.
Let’s Pray
Today, let’s pray for the grace to be faithful in every sphere of life:
In our families: Lord, help us to love sacrificially, to listen deeply, and to nurture faith in our homes.
In our workplaces and schools: May we work with excellence, integrity, and compassion, honouring Your name in all we do.
In our communities: Empower us to be agents of justice and mercy, seeking righteousness across our towns and cities.
Pray that everything we do honours Christ’s name and reflects His kingdom. Let our lives be a living testimony, drawing others to the beauty of Christ.
Where is God inviting you to “breathe out” His presence today, to ‘let your light shine before others’.
Ask Him to fill you afresh, so that you might faithfully carry His love into every corner of your world.
